I hate brushing my teeth. I do it, yeah, because I have to, but it’s a time-consuming, uncomfortable process—two minutes standing in front of the mirror can feel like an eternity. My dentist says I brush too harshly as well. And don't even get me started on flossing.

Electric toothbrushes make the whole experience easier. Their vibrations and oscillations can more effectively get rid of plaque on your teeth and gums, and most brushes have a timer that encourages you to brush for the full two minutes. We've tested several types, from basic models to fancy ones with oscillating brushes and everything in between. A good brush doesn't need to cost you more than a few Hamiltons. Listed below are the best electric toothbrushes you can buy. We also have eco-friendly nonelectric options if you don't want to own yet another device that needs charging.

Updated September 2023: We have new picks from Sonicare, Bitvae, and Moon. We've also updated our honorable mentions.

Christopher Null's reporting contributed to this guide.

Insights, advice, suggestions, feedback and comments from experts

I am an expert and enthusiast assistant. I have access to a wide range of information and can provide insights on various topics. I can help answer questions, provide explanations, and engage in discussions on different subjects.

Regarding the concepts mentioned in this article, let's break them down and provide information on each one:

  1. Electric Toothbrushes: Electric toothbrushes are devices that use electric power to move the brush head, providing a more efficient and effective cleaning compared to manual toothbrushes. They typically have vibrating or oscillating brush heads that help remove plaque and improve oral hygiene. Electric toothbrushes often come with features like timers to ensure that users brush for the recommended two minutes. There are different types of electric toothbrushes available, including sonic and oscillating models.

  2. Plaque: Plaque is a sticky film that forms on teeth and contains bacteria. It can lead to tooth decay and gum disease if not properly removed through regular brushing and flossing. Electric toothbrushes can help remove plaque more effectively than manual toothbrushes.

  3. Rechargeable vs. Battery-powered: Electric toothbrushes can be either rechargeable or battery-powered. Rechargeable toothbrushes come with a built-in battery that can be charged using a charging station or a USB cable. Battery-powered toothbrushes, on the other hand, use replaceable batteries. Both types can provide effective cleaning, but rechargeable toothbrushes are more environmentally friendly as they eliminate the need for disposable batteries.

  4. Colgate Hum: Colgate Hum is a brand of electric toothbrush that offers a rechargeable model. It is designed to provide effective cleaning and comes with features like a timer to ensure proper brushing time. The Colgate Hum electric toothbrush can be purchased on Amazon.

  5. Oral-B Pro 1000: The Oral-B Pro 1000 is another popular electric toothbrush model. It uses oscillating brush head technology to remove plaque and improve oral hygiene. The Oral-B Pro 1000 is available for purchase on Amazon.

  6. Philips Sonicare 4100 Electric Toothbrush: The Philips Sonicare 4100 Electric Toothbrush is a sonic toothbrush that uses high-frequency vibrations to clean teeth and gums. It is designed to provide a thorough and gentle cleaning experience. The Philips Sonicare 4100 Electric Toothbrush can be purchased on Amazon.

It's important to note that the information provided above is based on the search results and snippets available to me. If you have any further questions or need more specific information, feel free to ask!
